Morphometric Characterization of Indigenous Goats in East Gojjam Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia

This study was conducted in HuletEjuEnesie, GonchaSisoEnesie and EnbseSarMidir districts of East Gojjam Zone with the aim to Morphometric characterize indigenous goat populations.A total 600 goats were sampled randomly for phenotypic characterization. The most dominant coat color pattern populations wasplain patchy frequently observed type being light red, white red white. Sex animal had significant effect on all body measurements, except ear length, chest depth, rump length width. district significantly higher measurement values than other districts. Dentition differences weight linear measurements. Correlations among measurements positive both sexes. result multiple regression analysis showed that heart girth explained more variation any does (71%) bucks (82%). prediction could be based equation BW = -37.93 + 0.92CG female sample population BW= -44.47 1.02CG male population. To sustainably utilize these production constrains should solved selective community-based breeding strategies designed implemented .
